Root Planing Is The Treatment For Moderate Gum Infection

It is between teeth that patients most likely to neglect to clean which is the are where periodontal disease or gum infection most frequently begins. If this is left alone, the loss of bones continues and progresses until dental pockets become deeper and deeper. The patient fits into a more severe classification of gum infection when the dental pockets already measure 6 to 7 mm between the teeth. The patient now is said to have moderate periodontal disease. Root planing is the treatment for moderate periodontal disease and for incipient periodontal disease as well. But since there is more root exposed above bone line to plane, the dental patient's oral cavity is done in four separate visits, one quarter of the mouth per visit. These patients are placed frequently on a three or four month recall schedule to be able to receive periodontal maintenance once the initial periodontal treatment has been carried out.
